Biography
Muriel Dal Bo, - Argentine parents and Italian grandparents-, was born in Buenos Aires and left her country at the age of six. Shee lives in Madrid until eleven, when she moves to Tenerife, in the Canary Islands. There she spent her adolescence, with the sights set on art and movies. At the end of high school, her efforts are focused on leaving abroad to develop her career, although the first jobs as a filmmaker and as a photographer would arise in the islands, where she completes her studies. Also at that time, she alternated her training and professional start with her first assignments of illustration, design and costume making, disciplines that she had started as a hobby, but which turned out to have a professional possibility among particular initiatives. The opportunity that would allow her to start working in movies, however, comes from the hand of another of her hobbies: writing. Among the stories presented to various competitions would be the germ of which, scripted, gets a subsidy of 30.00, to shoot a short film in 16mm, of which then, granted by the island government. It is also her baptism as a film director. The short film, entitled "El cielo es Masculino Singular", is presented at various festivals and is premiered at the House of Culture of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1998. At the same time, she participates in several photography collectives, one of its images being chosen to inaugurate the "Sexpresan Foto" exhibition, composed of more than 200 images and 70 photographers from the islands.That same year she moved to London. Her trips, in fact, would begin in 1992, but for several years she goes and returns periodically between Tenerife, London and Madrid, finally settling in the latter during 1999, when she began working as a technician in professional film. After some years in which she acquires experience in different departments: Direction, production and decoration of movies, the crisis of the sector in 2002 led her to rethink her way of life, and decided to move to live in the mountains, at an our from the capital. The tranquility of the environment allows her to focus on literature and writes what she considers her best work so far: the dark fantasy saga "El amante del Rey Muerto"; that develops in four volumes of about 500 pages each volume. Although she registers it in 2008, she does not consider it finished until 2017, when she places it in the hands of an editorial agent. All those years of tranquility and bucolic life serve her to retake disciplines that were somewhat forgotten while she was focused on movies. The love for beauty, art, culture, and history, turn into her deepest concerns, her areas of personal development and also her leisure activities.She travels to document the saga that she is writing, and also to tour some of her favorite destinations. From one of these trips that she makes to Saharawi camps in Algerian lands with a group of oral narrators. Watercolors and photographs appear, as well as activities of accompaniment of the group.
She is working as a cultural promoter for the town council of the municipality where she lives, along this period: Santa María de la Alameda, and she joins the Professional Association of Illustrators of Madrid: APIM, through which she organizes activities claiming fantasy gender illustration and obtaining a new grant for another of her projects: The exhibition "The Monk", on the homonymous book of M.Lewis, composed by illustrations of several authors, 14 cardboard theaters designed by her and illuminated with LEDs, and it's own installation within the First Gothic Week of Madrid; event that it takes place in the Plaza de Felipe II during 2009. In this event she also curated the rest of illustrator exhibitions, and initially she is in charge of the development of Platform G; the fashion show area, of it; although later she leaves the position to take care of the launching of her own clothes firm, that would close the parades of the SGM.
Defining the inner world that reflects his work, is talking about the search for beauty and the search for the sublime, a strong timeless romanticism, and a touch of sweet darkness that, at times, can be disconcertingly luminous. Therefore, when he launched his costume and fashion firm, he called it: "Sublime". The journey of the same lasted until 2014, year in which the pressure exerted by the economic crisis led to suspend the activity and focus on individual commissions. Meanwhile, the firm itself would serve as an excuse to retake the address, making their own promotional video, as well as some other custom, and catch up with digital photography, with which he had rarely faced. All this led her to recycle her training, and since then she has been handling varied assignments from each of these individual branches from her studio and studio, where requests for wedding reports alternate with costume, illustration and occasionally an article or review. .During this last stage, the requests have been so varied, that he has not found the opportunity to focus on one branch of his creative work, and has continued to develop them and form them in parallel, returning to sewing classes, workshops on photography and editing, and Sometimes participating in exhibitions, fairs and shows, either with their own sales stand, or lending their work for exhibitions. He feels, often, that none of these facets is complete without the others, and when he focuses exclusively on one, the others call it powerfully, which makes him tend to balance and try to combine all of them in the same project. These characteristics make Muriel a complete artist, with capacity to cover many fields at the same time. One of her film teachers said something like this to her:

Muriel Dal Bo, -de padres argentinos y abuelos italianos-, nace en Buenos Aires y abandona su país a los séis años. Vive en Madrid hasta los once, momento en que se traslada a Tenerife, en las Islas Canarias. Allí transcurre su adolescencia, con las miras puestas en el arte y en el cine. Al acabar la secundaria, sus esfuerzos se centren en marcharse fuera para desarrollar su carrera, aunque los primeros trabajos como cineasta y como fotógrafa surgirían en las islas, donde completa sus estudios. También por entonces alterna su formación e inicio profesional con sus primeros encargos de ilustración, diseño y confección de vestuario, disciplinas que ella había iniciado como hobbie, pero que resultan tener salida profesional entre iniciativas particulares. La oportunidad que le permitiría iniciarse en el cine, sin embargo, viene de la mano de otra de sus aficciones: escribir. Entre los relatos que presenta a diversos concursos estaría el germen del que, guionizado, obtiene una subvencion de 30.00, para rodar un cortometraje en 16mm, de las que por entonces, otorgaba el gobierno insular. Es también su bautismo como directora de cine. El cortometraje, titulado "El cielo es Masculino Singular" se presenta a diversos festivales y es estrenado en la Casa de la Cultura de Santa Cruz de Tenerife durante 1998. Paralelamente participa en varias colectivas de fotografía, siendo una de sus imagenes la elegida para innaugurar la muestra de "Sexpresan Foto";compuesta más de 200 imágenes y 70 fotógrafos de las islas.
Ese mismo año se muda a Londres. Sus viajes, en realiad, comenzarían en 1992, pero durante varios años va y vuelve periódicamente entre Tenerife, Londres y Madrid, afincándose finalmente en esta última durante 1999, cuando comienza a trabajar como técnico en el cine profesional. Tras algunos años en los que adquiere experiencia en diversos departamentos: Dirección, producción y decoración de cine, la crisis del sector en el año 2002 la lleva a replantearse su modo de vida, y decide mudarse a vivir en la sierra, a una hora de la capital. La tranquilidad del entorno le permite centrarse la literatura y escribe la que considera su mejor trabajo hasta el momento: la saga de fantasía oscura "El amante del Rey Muerto"; que se desarrolla en cuatro tomos de unas 500 páginas. Aunque la registra en 2008, no la considera terminada hasta 2017, momento en que la pone en manos de un agente editorial.
Todos esos años de tranquilidad y vida bucólida le sirven para retomar disciplinas que quedaron un tanto olvidadas mientras estuvo centrada en el cine. El amor por la belleza, el arte, la cultura, y la historia, se convierten en en sus inquietudes más profundas, sus áreas de desarrollo personal y también en sus actividades de ocio.
Viaja para documentar la saga que está escribiendo, y también para recorrer algunos de sus entornos favoritos. De uno de estos viajes que realiza a los campamentos Saharauis en tierras argelinas con un grupo de narradores orales, surgen exposiciones de acuarelas y fotografías, así como actividades de acompañamiento del grupo. Trabaja como dinamizadora cultural para el ayuntamiento del municipio donde reside: Santa María de la Alameda, y se afilia a la Asociación Profesional de Ilustradores de Madrid: APIM, a través de la cual organiza actividades reivindicando la ilustración de género y obteniendo una nueva subvención para otro proyecto suyo: La exposición "El Monje", sobre el libro homónimo de M.Lewis, compuesta por ilustraciones de varios autores, 14 teatrillos de carton diseñados por ella e iluminados con leds, y una instalación propia dentro de la Primera Semana Gótica de Madrid; evento que se desarrolla en la plaza de Felipe II durante el año 2009. En dicho evento también comisaria el resto de exposiciones de ilustradores, e inicialmente se encarga del desarrollo de Plataforma G; la sección de moda, del mismo; aunque posteriormente cede el cargo para ocuparse del lanzamiento de su propia firma de ropa, que cerraría los desfiles de la SGM.
Definir el mundo interior que refleja su trabajo, es hablar de la búsqueda de la belleza y de la búsqueda de lo sublime, de un fuerte romanticismo atemporal, y de un cierto toque de dulce oscuridad que, en ocasiones, puede ser desconcertántemente luminoso. Por ello, cuando lanzó su firma de vestuario y moda, la llamó así: "Sublime". La andadura de la misma duró hasta 2014, año en que la presión que ejercía la crisis económica la llevó a suspender la actividad y centrarse en encargos individuales. Mientras tanto, la propia firma le serviría como excusa para retomar la dirección, realizando su propio video promocional, así como algun otro de encargo, y ponerse al día con la fotografía digital, con la que escasamente se había enfrentado. Todo esto la llevó a reciclar su formación, y desde entonces atiende encargos variados de cada una de estas ramas individuales desde su taller y estudio, donde las peticiones de reportajes de boda se alternan con los encargos de vestuario, ilustración y ocasionalmente algún artículo o reseña.
Durante esta última etapa, las peticiones han sido tan variadas, que no ha encontrado la ocasión de centrarse en una rama de su hacer creativo, y ha seguido desarrollándolas y formándose en ellas paralelamente, retomando clases de costura, workshops de fotografía y edición, y a veces participando en muestras, ferias y salones, ya sea con stand propio de venta, o prestando su obra para exposiciones. Siente, a menudo, que ninguna de estas facetas está completa sin las otras, y cuando se centra exclusivamente en una, las demás la llaman poderosamente, lo que hace que tienda a equilibrar e intentar compaginar todas ellas en un mismo proyecto. Dichas características hacen de Muriel una artista completa, con capacidad para abarcar muchos terrenos al mismo tiempo. Uno de sus profesores de cine dijo de ella algo así:
"Si Muriel poseyera el don de la ubiquidad, la suma de sus
capacidades bastaría para realizar un cortometraje ella sola:
Puede escribir guiones, dirigir, actuar, hacer de fotofija,
entiende de diseño y confección de vestuario y tiene un
sentido innato de la estética para decorar. Se le da bien la
producción, y también podría dominar la cámara de cine. Lo
único que no tiene, es oído. Ni el más mínimo. Sería una
espantosa sonidista. Tendría que ser una película muda".
Bueno. A Muriel nunca le interesó demasiado el sonido. Es completamente amusical. Eso sí, puede ponerle imágenes porque también ha hecho algún videoclip; y sí, en este caso se encargó también de organizar el vestuario partiendo de un presupuesto cero, encontrar las localizaciones, y diseñar la escasa iluminación que fue necesaria.
